Current issue of Acta Musicologica

IMS members automatically receive a subscription to Acta. Being part of the IMS also has many more membership benefits (click here for details). The annual subscription price for non-members is €108.00.

Acta Musicologica (p-ISSN: 0001-6241 | e-ISSN: 2296-4339), published by the International Musicological Society (IMS), is one of the world’s oldest and most renowned musicological journals. Emphasis is placed on methodological cooperation between all musicological sub-disciplines as well as on the integration of related fields. Acta publishes up to 14 articles per year on an ongoing basis. Contributions can be submitted at any time.

Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement

Acta ensures the highest ethical and professional standards of scholarship. It follows the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and the Code of Conduct for Journal Publishers published by the Committee for Publication Ethics (COPE). The journal also adheres to the COPE Guidelines. In particular, the following practices are not accepted:  
  • Misrepresentation (fabrication or falsification of data and inappropriate image manipulation)
  • Plagiarism (unreferenced use of published and unpublished ideas)
  • Duplicate and redundant publication (text recycling of the author's own work)
  • Copyright infringement

The following sanctions may be applied according to the severity of the infraction: The editors may publish a retraction, inform the author’s institution, and/or refuse to consider future work from the author.

Open Access Policy

Acta is committed to advancing sustained open access to musicological publications. Currently, Acta offers its authors a green open access policy. This means that the authors’s articles are available for self-deposition from 12 months after the publishing date. The executive board of the IMS and the editorial team of Acta are currently working on the development of a gold open access policy for the journal.

Acta is indexed and abstracted in the following citation indexing services and bibliographic databases:

Editorial Team

The IMS is the media owner of Acta. Although the journal is published and financed by the IMS, it is open to authors and readers from around the world. Acta has an editorial team consisting of leading scholars from around the world. The editorial team is nominated and advised by the executive board of the IMS. The editors independently manage the administration of Acta. In compliance with the COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines, the IMS does not interfere with the editorial freedom of the editors and the editorial board.
